FAQ
Drywall questions homeowners actually ask
Straight answers. Planning ranges, not invented local prices. Codes still vary by city.
How much does drywall cost?+–
Use the price calculator on this site for a planning number from square feet, ceiling height, and finish level. That is an estimate, not a bid. Access, repairs, texture, occupancy, and what we find on site still change the job. We measure, then we write a price. Call or text 320-296-9758.
How does the price calculator work?+–
Enter the square feet to be finished, pick 8 ft, 9 ft, or over 9 ft ceilings, and pick a finish level from 1 to 5. The calculator returns a planning price. It is not a contract. We still walk the house before we bid.
How long does a typical room or house take?+–
A small repair can be same-day or the next day. A single room that needs hang and finish is often 2–4 days including dry time. A whole house follows the build schedule; finish work commonly spans one to two weeks depending on size, coats, and weather. Joint compound has to dry. We will not torch a Level 4 to hit a fake Friday.
Do I need Level 5?+–
Need is the wrong word for most rooms. If you have grazing window light, a skylight washing a long wall, dark paint, or anything glossier than eggshell, Level 5 is the honest recommendation. If the room is a typical living space with flat or eggshell and a light orange peel, Level 4 is the right standard — and we will say so.
Will you match my existing texture?+–
Yes, when we can see and feel it. Orange peel and knockdown are everyday matches. We like a test patch on a spare board or an inside closet before we commit a whole wall. Specialty trowel work is quoted as a sample-first item.
Do you handle garage fire separation?+–
Yes — the drywall portion. IRC R302.6 is the usual starting point: gypsum on the garage side of shared walls, and 5/8" Type X on ceilings under living space where that is required. Your city may amend the code. We verify with the AHJ. We are not a full fire-stopping contractor for every pipe and wire penetration.
Are you licensed and insured?+–
Yes. We are fully insured, and we have hung and finished homes in the Twin Cities since 1988. We show proof of insurance before we start.
Do you work in occupied homes?+–
Yes. Remodels and repairs in lived-in houses are normal work. We contain the area, prefer HEPA vacuuming at the sander and cut-out, and clean as we go so you are not living in a dust cloud. Perfect zero-dust is a myth. Controlled dust is the job.
What’s included versus paint?+–
Unless the bid says otherwise, we hand off paint-ready drywall: hung, beaded, taped, coated, sanded or textured to the agreed level, and punched. Primer and paint are the painter’s scope. We will talk to your painter if they want a raking-light walkthrough with us.
